Vegetarian Diet Could Be the Key to Strong Bones, We’ve always been told that drinking milk and eating meat is good for us. But many studies have called conventional wisdom into question, leading many to ask whether we’ve been fed lies all of these years instead of nutrition.

1. High meat and dairy consumption spells bone density disaster

A study titled, A high ratio of dietary animal to vegetable protein increases the rate of bone loss and the risk of fracture in postmenopausal women published in the US National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health asks serious questions about how much meat and dairy women consume and how that relates to their overall bone health.

They worked with over 1,000 women aged 65 and older, measuring their protein intake and mineral bone density. What they found was that the more animal protein (including dairy, which is high in animal protein) a woman eats, the higher her rate of bone loss.

This association was independent of other factors such as tobacco use, exercise, estrogen use, weight, and calcium supplements or intake. What’s more surprising is that vegetable protein – from beans, lentils, grains, vegetables, and so forth – does not seem to have the same impact. The moral of the story? Eat more vegetable proteins and cut back on meat and dairy to get strong bones.

2. Connection between animal foods and hip fractures

Animal Foods and Hip FracturesGoing further, a study called, Worldwide incidence of hip fracture in elderly women: relation to consumption of animal and vegetable foods examined the hip fracture incidence (HFI) data across 33 different countries as reported by the United Nationals Food and Agriculture Organization and found a similar association between meat and dairy with bone density loss.

The study, which worked with women 50 years and older, found that countries with animal protein intakes lower than vegetable protein intakes had a lower terile of HFI. By contrast, countries where animal protein exceeded vegetable protein had much higher terile of HFI. Further proof that a vegetarian-friendly diet helps create strong bones.

A recent study conducted by scientists in Canada has shown that pregnant women and foetuses are at risk of health problems if the mother consumes genetically modified (GM) foods during her pregnancy.

Maternal and fetal exposure to pesticides associated to genetically modified foods in Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada looked at whether there was a correlation between maternal and fetal exposure to pesticides associated with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) by sampling the blood of 30 pregnant women and 39 nonpregnant women.

 

In addition, the cord blood of the pregnancy women’s babies was also analyzed.

The agricultural chemicals tested included herbicides and insecticides including the following:

  • Glyphosate, brand name Roundup
  • Gluphosinate, a broad-spectrum herbicide
  • AMPA, aminomethyl phosphoric acid, a metabolite of glyphosate
  • 3-MMPA, 3-methylphosphinico propionic acid, a metabolite of gluphosinate
  • Cry1Ab, the Bt toxin of gluphosinate

The study concluded that yes, indeed, in some cases, agricultural chemicals are able to survive a woman’s digestive system, move from there into the pregnant woman’s bloodstream, and from there be passed on to the developing infant.

During ovulation: Egg releases during ovulation period that is between 13th to 15th days. If egg fertilizes, pregnancy can occur. If not, your cycle continues and menstrual period occurs in 14 days.

After ovulation: If there is no occurrence of pregnancy after ovulation period, uterine lining wall starts to break down and is discarded during menstrual period. Around 19 to 21 days, levels of progesterone become high and reach the peak level during the beginning of the phase. At the end of the phase, levels of progesterone start to decrease. You will find difficulty in sleeping due to the falling progesterone levels.

Well, is it that time of the month again? That time in a woman’s life when the hormones are playing war games with her.

Women all around the world talk about their period giving those clever, silly or even totally unrelated names, perhaps because the name ‘Period’ itself sounds gross if talked about publicly.

From ‘my red friend’s come to visit’ to something like ‘the river overflowed’, talking about our period is as uncomfortable as much as, if not less, as having the period itself and that is why these funny names.

We also have to note that her mother is also a survivor.
